Impact
By addressing the root structural causes that lead to inequities in opportunities, we seek to inspire and support transformational
policy change in public higher education that leads towards equitable outcomes for all.
Amplifying our Impact
Conduct in-depth research, comprehensive policy analysis, and thorough program evaluation to promote equity, access, and completion in higher education.
Collaborate with partners, peers and stakeholders to increase research capacity within the higher education sector.
Analyze the impact of higher education initiatives on local communities and ensure they are designed to reach those most in need.
Our Process: From Research to Impact
How we achieved protections for student loan borrowers in Massachusetts
We fundamentally believe that everyone, regardless of identity or circumstance, should have the chance to live healthy and economically secure lives. A degree is an asset that provides lifelong returns, opening doors to personal growth, higher earning potential, and financial stability.
However, race and socio-economic status still limit educational achievement.
We are working to fix that.
Five Years in Review
Hildreth Institute has directly impacted the lives of underserved college students across the Commonwealth. Key wins that have resulted from our work include:
Increased funding of need-based financial aid for Massachusetts students,
Stronger consumer protections for student borrowers
Additional funding and resources for public colleges and universities
Our work is not unnoticed. In 2021, the Hildreth Institute received the Excellence Award in Advocacy from the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network for our work establishing a Student Loan Borrower Bill of Rights in Massachusetts.
